Transplanting 4" Caliper Black Walnut Trees

We have large Black Walnut seedlings, up to 4" in diameter, at the base, located next to some farm buildings. Up to what point would you recommend not moving them, and just cut them down. Are the roots really deep? Machine picking is not possible.
