What species of trees are mostly used for regeneration after logging or removal in the Illinois forests? We are assuming oak/hickory but need to know for a growth simulation model (FVS) that we are developing for the area

Hi Charley:

Well, that depends considering there are 183 + tree species that call Illinois home. American elm (Ulmus americana) by sheer numbers, is the most populous tree species in Illinois due to its shade tolerance. You question can best be answered depending on Forest Cover Type or Forest Habitat Type.

Give me a call and I can help steer you in the right direction!

Best, Jay
