Our Black Walnut was a surprise. It's growing in the middle of our backyard. It seems 50-60' tall. and stands about 60' west of our home in a small stand of trees and scrub. Any chance of a strong wind toppling it in our direction? Is the root system wide enough & deep enough? Thank you.

Hi Mary Ann:

Depending on tree soundness and soil conditions, there is always the possibility that a standing tree could be compromised by strong winds. If you are genuinely concerned that your black walnut is somewhat compromised, then I would strongly urge you to consult a certified arborist for an on-site assessment.

Best of luck!
