I planted a esk sunset sycamore maple (acer pseudoplataus esk sunset) this summer. It is a young tree (2 feet tall). It began losing its leaves last month. Do these trees do well in the Midwest and should I be worried about the early leaf drop?

Hi Pamela:

Did you ensure your newly planted tree received plenty of water after planting? Moreover, we experienced a pretty significant drought in July and August this year. here in Illinois.

The Premature leaf drop may likely be due to stress caused by lack of supplemental watering.
