Live Edge Bark Preservation

[Post a Follow Up] [Post to this category]

While thinning some Black Walnut trees, I recently made a handful of stump “coins” and was thinking about turning them into cutting boards. I’ve read elsewhere that Black Walnut bark is one of the easier barks to preserve, especially when cut during the winter. (Check and check!)|

Any suggestions or other resources I might consult about how to preserve the edge while maintaining a food grade finish?

Hi Peter:

Great question! A quick web search suggests maintaining a "bark on" live edge can be extremely difficult, if not disappointing.

Since I'm not a woodworking expert, may I suggest you reach out to the myriad of hardwood woodworking web forums, FaceBook groups, etc., for suggestions or recommendations?

Best of luck! Jay
