Pear Tree Leaves Turning Brown

Inquiry from local resident: We have a pear tree that is 6 years old. About half of the leaves have turned brown and dried up. The ones that are still green have large brown areas on them. The branches look good on the inside...I checked a couple where the leaves were totally brown and inside, the branch is still white and healthy looking. Do you know what it might be? Hi Dana:

Pear trees are very sensitive to "fire blight," which is my guess based on the description you provided.

Here is a good internet resource on fire blight symptoms and control recommendations: https://ohioline.osu.edu/factsheet/plpath-fru-22-0

Best of luck!
