Oak wilt is a fungus that attacks all species of oak (essentially, this fungus clogs the water-conducting tissue of the tree). Members of the red oak group (northern red oak, black oak, pin oak, shingle oak, etc.) are much more susceptible to the effects of oak wilt than are members of the white oak group (white oak, bur oak, post oak, swamp white oak, etc.).

Oak wilt management varies depending on the severity of the outbreak, location of infected trees, number of infected trees, etc. Prevention, tree removal, trenching, and fungicides are all treatment options. Please contact a local forester or certified arborist for more information regarding oak wilt management on your property.
