My father has a 75 year old Black Walnut in his yard. He wants it removed. do you know any one in the South East Pennsylvania area he could call to get a fair price for it?

Thank you for the question Chuck.

Yard trees, regardless of species, are a mixed bag for most timber buyers. Root damage, defects to the bole, and potential metal in the tree often deter most interested buyers from coming out and looking at most yard trees. Occasionally, some homeowners receive a great price for a yard tree.

My recommendation is to contact the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Forestry service forester who covers the county in SE Pennsylvania where your father lives http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry/serviceforesters_select.aspx Simply ask the service forester to provide you with a list of professional consulting foresters or local timber buyers who work in the general area where you father lives.

Sorry Chuck, but this is all the help I can provide regarding technical assistance in Pennsylvania.

Regards, Jay

I know new york city had or has a contract with some Amish mills for street trees. you might want to try searching one out. potential nails in the trees are a big issue for many mills, they can ruin saw blades.

Best advise for you! If your father wants it moved -some may offer to just move it! and if it is the type of walnut tree that looks like it may cut Vaeneer" Then sell it to the highest bidder-Please do Not! Just listen to anyone who dosen"t even buy trees-They just give advise-That is unknown to or for them to give-Because I DO BUY TREES AND GRADE THOSE TREES BEFORE PUTTING A PRICE ON THOSE TREES! THAT IS LOGGING!
