Selling Walnut Trees in Virginia

Hello, Jay.

I ran across your bulletin board in an Internet search for information regarding marketing urban black walnut trees. Could you please provide an authority in the Northern Virginia area so my family can make an assessment of how likely we are to sell trees on our property. We have approximately 15 trees that range in diameter from 12 inches to 37 inches (7 are from 12 to 20 inches in diameter, 4 are from 20 to 30 inches in diameter, and 4 are 30 inches or greater in diameter) and the trunks range from 15 to 25 feet. They're straight and are located in the back part of a 4 acre field and left along for a number of years.

Thanks for your help.

John Lynch

Greetings John,

Thank you for your black walnut marketing question. My recommendation to you is to contact your local Virginia Dept. of Forestry county forester:

http://www.dof.virginia.gov/info/vdof-directory.shtml

My second recommendation is to contact a professional consulting forester to assist you in appraising and marketing your trees: http://www.dof.virginia.gov/mgt/consultant-forester-index.shtml

This information will allow you to get the ball rolling! Best of luck and thank you for visiting Illinois' Extension Forestry website!
