When in doubt, ask the pros! I'm interested in knowing about where elm tree forest concentratations are located in central il.Il parks or even a topo map of "concentrations of elm" populations around or near sangamon county. Where were the old forest that were wiped out long ago by dutch elm D. Do you Know where I amgoing with this? i hope so. Thank you for your prompt response.

Brian,

Yes, I know where you are headed with this question. Fortunately, elm is still widespread in abundance in Illinois. In fact, slippery elm is the most abundant tree species in the state.

Most floodplain forests near and adjacent to a stream or river are going to have an elm component. Because elm is such a common species, there really are no special maps showing concentrations of American elm or slippery elm.

U would only maybe be able to tell from fall foliage aerial photos of forest.
