WALNUT TREE IN YARD 31 YEARS AGO WHEN WE MOVED IN. WITH DOUBLE TRUNK, WE CUT THE ONE THAT WAS LEANING OVER THE GARAGE. THE DOUBLE TRUNK HAS A SPLIT LARGE ENOUGH FOR A HAND TO FIT--WHAT ARE THE CHANCES THIS TREE IS WEAKENED AND HOLLOW, AND NEEDS TO BE TOTALLY CUT DOWN?

Greetings Iouella,

Most tree removal and cause of tree decline questions need to be addressed on-site by a professional tree care specialist. Regrettably, I cannot honestly answer this question without evaluating the tree in person.

Please contact your local state extension office or contact a local certified aborist (check yellow pages) for an on-site evaluation.

Good luck!
