Shawn,
Regarding vine management on crop trees, I'm an advocate of removing grape vines and poison ivy vines from my high quality timber trees. The vines add a tremendous amount of weight to the crown and branches, thus increasing the probability of crown and branch breakage. Simply sever the vines at ground level at treat the vine (ground end) with herbicide such as Pathway, Garlon, etc.
As we discussed earlier in a phone conversation, if the terrain is flat, wet, with heavy clay, there are good odds that you may have a number of post oak (Quercus stellata) trees.
