Autumn Colors

My question has to do with Autumn colors in Illinois. I'm planning an event in the southern suburbs of Chicago, and it will be held in October - hopefully when the leaves are changing colors. I know it's impossible to predict the timing of fall colors- but in the past few years do you know if the fall colors were still present on Oct 20? I am looking at either Oct 13 or Oct 20 as the date for this event. The location is the Lake Katherine nature center in Palos Heights. Thanks.

Greetings Diana,

Based on some historical data, mid-October is the normal peak time for autumn colors in northern Illinois. The onset of autumn colors is often observed during the latter part of September in your neck of the woods. Therefore, the dates you projected for your event in Palos Heights fall well within the range of normal peak autumn colors.
