Stumpage Price for White & Red Oak (IL)

Recently we had a timber buyer give a price for trees on my families timber. The trees are mostly white, with red oak. He offered $50 to $60 a tree. He said he counted at least 200 trees that he wanted to buy. We told him to take a hike. Many of these trese are straight, tall, white oaks that are 34" to 38" in diameter. I realize you can't put a price on trees you haven't seen, but I think the price the guy gave us is ridiculous. We are planning to hire a private forester. Thanks.

Greetings Richard:

Yes, I would certainly say that was an incredibly ridiculous offer as these trees, even if they were all firewood-quality trees, would be worth at least double that amount, at the the very least (i.e., a face cord of seasoned oak)!

I'm glad you've decided to forgo that logger's insulting and seek the timber sale administration services of a profession consulting forester -- you absolutely made the right choice!

Kudos to you for doing your research!!!
