We have a mature thornless honeylocust tree in our yard that recently seems to be producing thorny offspring. Is that possible? We have been removing these thorny new trees when we find them since they're dangerous to be around, but do we also need to take down our old tree to put a stop to it for good?

Yes, it is definitely possible for mature thornless honeylocust to produce offspring w/ thorns.

Regarding your second question: The decision to remove your honeylocust tree based on a perceived nuisance is completely a personal decision, one which I cannot help you with.

Best of luck!
