Hi Frances:

The only way to value or appraise a stand of timber is to hire a professional consulting forester to conduct a forest inventory (cruise) of your woodland to determine volume and value by species and product class (veneer logs, grade logs, mat/crane logs, tie logs, pallet/blocking logs, etc.).

I'll email you an Illinois Directory of Professional Consulting Foresters in a follow-up email.

Best of luck!
