Pin Oak Decline in Neoga, IL

Hello, in my small town of Neoga, IL there has been a large-scale death and decline of pin oak on the western portion of the town. The species has dominated the area until the past few years when the majority have died or are on the decline. Many of the trees suffer from severe gall infestation; however, some that have died have few, if any galls. Can anything be done to stop the spread of this?

Hi Dustin:

I too have witnessed a fair amount of pin decline and mortality in east-central Illinois over the last 3-5 years. Most of the decline I see is likely attributed to bacterial leaf scorch (BLS).
