We have 10 acres of various wood including Oak Walnut Hickory and a lot of really big Cedars. Will anyone want a harvest 10 acres of various would like this? If we do have the wood harvested, and plant say black walnut, how do we keep the other trees that will grow naturally from competing with the ones we planted? Do we have to go out there and prune those every year?

Hi William:

As a professional forester, I've marked small timber sales on parcels under 10 acres -- so there is a possibility that you'll be able to sell some timber. Regarding how to best improve your forest for both the short- and long term, I would strongly encourage you to get in contact with your local Missouri Dept. of Conservation forester:

Best of luck!
