Over the past month, early June to early July, we have begun to see some bright yellow foam like material creeping around the shrubs & a small flowering tree in our front landscaped bed. It has continued to spread around this bed and now to the side of the house. It changes color from bright yellow to a dull brown/tan with the same consistency. What is this and what can we do about it? Thanks for any information you may have. Kim

Hi,

this is slime mold and is a common occurance on the surface of organic mulches such as wood bark. It is not harmful only looks bad . Usually lasts for a day before just getting rather powdery. No sprays are suggested or warrented best to just rake the area to loosen up the mulch and get some air through it to help dry it out and keep the mold to a minimum.
