unusual Nuts? from oak tree

Good afternoon. A large Oak on my property is not dropping acorns this year but instead is dropping small (pea size) nuts? they are spotted yellow /red green/ red . do you know what may be causing this? today is Sept. 26 2021. Normally I have acorns start dropping this time of year. Thank you for taking the time to let me know your thoughts. Gary A
