Caso 1 - Growing Deeper

Some students might want to learn more, or you might have an entire group that wants to examine the subject matter further. You can add to this week, or ask an interested student to explore further, by finding out:

• How far does the root system go beyond the plant?

• What is the function of the petiole, other than holding the leaf to the stem?

• What do different cultures value in food parts? What parts of plants do different cultures eat?

• Find out the differences between herbaceous and woody stems.

• How does the shape of the leaf affect the plant?

• Think about this statement: "You play ball on perennial plants." Have students explain this.
