Detecting Tornadoes

In the United States, many tornadoes are discovered by using weather radar. The radar can detect what direction the wind is moving. If an area shows that air is spinning, it is a good indication that a tornado may form.

Watch the moving radar image and when you see a ā€œCā€ shape image in the red area (where the tornado graphic pops up). That is where the air is rotating indicating conditions are right for the formation of a tornado.
