I have a gardenia and jasmine plant out in the garden and was wondering if I may keep them as they are instead of bringing them inside; if so can I tie a bit branches in order to cover the plants with styrofoam container for protection during the winter harsh cold ?

I do not believe you will be able to provide enough light as well as freeze protection to keep these plants alive outside in Zion Illinois.
