we have a flower bed of amarillas and we need to know if we should bring them in though the winter and if so how do we store them for the next year so they will bloom again. Thanks Teresa

Assuming your bed of amaryllis is doing well, you don't need to do anything special. Just leave them where they are, take good care of them, and they will reward you with an early springtime show year after year. While northerners must bring these plants indoors to winter over as houseplants or store dormant bulbs, you live well within their minimum USDA hardiness zone, which is 8. All that advice about digging and storing and forcing amaryllis bulbs into bloom is directed at cooler climates where the plants cannot survive year-round and maintain their natural bloom cycle.

One thing to watch out for is that amaryllis do not like wet feet! Make sure they're planted in a bed that has good drainage and don't overwater, especially in fall and winter when they're "resting" and getting ready to form new blooms. Be sure they're in a location with plenty of sun (though a bit of dappled shade in the heat of the afternoon is good). Give them an occasional light feeding with a balanced fertilizer during growth, and remove any yellowed or withered leaves. Otherwise, just sit back and enjoy the show!
