My leaves on these plants were kind of sparse near the bottom last year (my first full season after planting them). Shpuld I cut them back and how far? Thanks

Hello Donna: Smaller leaves and fewer of them would be normal the first year after transplanting for a lot of plants. Pruning should be limited to removal of branches or branch tips that did not survive the winter. Whole dead branches should be removed to the crown of the plant. Branch tips should be pruned down to living tissue and to a nearby bud or smaller branch. This year your chokeberry could be fertilized to further the establishment and encourage more new growth Hope you find this information useful.
