We purchased this one about three years ago and it is 10 feet tall and have watered it a great deal. We went through a drought last summer but we still watered it daily. This spring the bark is peeling open and the branches are bare. There are green leaves emerging from the bark from the soil line up to about 10 inches from the soil line. Am I going to lose this tree? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Helen:

It sounds like the will died down to within the 10 inches or so from the ground as you described. Willows are not typically grown as a hybrid, so the new shoots coming from the trunk will grow into a corkscrew willow again. I you see any shoots coming from the soil, they would make a better tree than those off of the trunk.

You have most likely lost the orginal tree.

Sorry for the good/bad news.
