Swamp Grass

I have just purchased a property that has really over grown grass. The land is elevated and I don't think it is draining properly, but too early to tell. The problem is there is a large amount of this 2 ft high "swampgrass" and "horsetails" and I was wondering what is the best way to get rid of it? I was thinking of roto-tilling the area and placing new sod and seeding or turf. There is a small creek that runs through the middle of the yard that may be the cause of this swampgrass. I have begun to weed wack the area and want to apply something that will work on swampgrass and horsetail. Pls help.

Hi Ricky

You may want to contact your local Extension office and get the grass correctly identified and find out what products are recommended in your state. It is difficult to make any chemical recommendations because I am not sure of the identity of the grass and I don't know what products are legal in your area.
