are there some wild flowers that could be called sweet williams. I had some wildflowers planted in a container and left them out all winter for two years. they did swell, i never knew what would come up. i dumped the pot out in the yard into some salal and this year i had the most beautiful flowers come from that mound of dirt. they were tall around two feet and had these little tiny flowers in clusters on each stem and the flowers looked like dianthus but they were in tiny clusters on the tips of the stem. some were pink, others magenta, dark pink, off white, light pink, and hot pink. gorgeous!!!! are these sweet williams?

It is quite possible your have Sweet Williams in your yard. I would suggest a visit to your County Extension office with samples or a few photos to confirm. If you have an Arboretum nearby, they would also be helpful in indentification. Another choice could be to locate an active garden club in your area and let them assist you.

Sincerely, Richard Hentschel
