Are you able to tell me why ALL of my hostas are full of holes and are yellow and brown. They seem to have some sort of disease even though I sprayed them about 6 weeks ago. I have never seen bugs on them but they look horrible! Thanks!

Dear Maureen: At this time of year most Hostas will be turning color as food is moved out of the leaves and into the root system for the winter. The holes are likely from insect feeding. Feeding is often at night. Sprays are effective for a limited time and if heavy insect feeding persists, repeated appilcations will be needed. Lastly, the weather plays a role in how soon plants begin to begin to go dormant for the winter months. This year has not been one to prolong the season. The good part is that being a perennial, you will get a fresh start next spring!
