I have some Alpine Firs they have interior needle blight. What type of treatment can be done for this? Also, I have a Noble Fir that has some dead brown needles showing and a couple of branches that look like thay have lost their needles. I just noticed it this week. It did not appear during the summer. This tree does not seem to be showing the same affects of Interior needle blight. The brown is more to the end of the branch. Thanks for your help.

Hello Linda: References state that Interior Needle Blight appears at the end of the season and the need for improving air circulation. Additionally, pruning out any affected branches will help eliminate the source. The Noble Fir could have needle necrosis as you noted the damage is on current year wood, typically showing up in the summer and associated with physiological condition.

There are currently no fungicide treatments recommended for either condition according to WSU. You may wish to contact your local county extension office for more treatment or cultural options.

Sincerely, Richard Hentschel
