Overseeding and Winterizing application

I am over-seeding my lawn and wondering what kind of lawn fertilizer should I be using? As this is the last fertilizer application for the year, should I apply the winterizer fertilizer in addition to the starter fertilizer? Looking forward for your advise.

Dear Mike: Young grass plants respond well to a starter fertilizer containing Phosphorus. This helps build roots. Often times you will see this listed as a "winterizer" fertilizer. You are looking for a middle number on the bag to be higher than the others and the first number to be low. This will promote root growth and storage for the winter and not promote top green growth.
