Hi. I planted 20 emerald greens in the spring. All went well, no browning watered adequately seemed to be thriving. In August and September we had lots of rain here in New Jersey. (Lots) Now it's early October had all of them are turning brown from the inside out. There hasn't been much rain last couple weeks but I haven't watered them because soil is still moist. Please help, I don't want to lose them.

Hello James: Arborvitae will naturally lose some interior needles every year and this is normal. The interior needles are no longer as productive as the newer needles produced this year. If you see other arborvitae besides yours doing this, then it is likely the annual needle lose. If all your plants are being impacted it is not likely a disease, but rather enviornmental. You can also contact your local extension office and find out if in your area there is a localized problem.

Sincerely, Richard
