I planted fig trees 4 years ago. The first -year there were almost no figs. The second year there was a bumper crop. Years 3 & 4 each tree produced figs but the figs only grew to about 25 % maturity. What do you think caused this?

Hello Harold,
Northern Illinois provides little experience with Figs. I can share that figs can be left naturally or actively pruned and in both cases produce ample fruit. In the crops I deal with, fruit thinning allows those fruits left to fully develop, yet I found nothing in literature that says you need to do this with figs.
