Dead pine trees

Is it safe to chip up dead pine trees and use it for mulch? Is there a possibility that the mulch would be detrimental to other plants? Thanks - Marsha

If the material is thoroughly composted, there is little risk of damage to other plants. If chipped up fine enough, insects will not typically survive. Using the mulch around other pines may pose a problem if the disease pathogens remain present in the chips and by their presence have an opportunity to infect. those pines.
