Weeping Norway seems sick

We purchased out Weeping Norway Pendula in the spring and shortly afterward planted it in our front yard opposite our Weeping Colorado. A month ago we had a tropical storm (I live on a barrier island in SE NC) and since then the Weeping Norway is turning brown. We've had moderate temperatures and lots of rain. Do you think there's any hope for our tree? It has such special meaning. Thank so much, Barbara

I suspect it has more to do with being transplanted than your storm. If it was balled and burlapped, your evergreen may have lost 40-50 % of its root system, yet has 100% of its needles that need to be supported. If it was container grown, it had 100% of the roots in the container. Containerized plants need to have their roots disturbed and spread out in the new planting hole, otherwise they confine them selves to area they have been growing as if they were still in the container. This small area can dry out quickly. Needles lost from the inside out is better than losing needles from the tip back. If there is a warranty, please contact the retailer so they are aware of the situation. the moderate temperatures and regular rain would have been considered a plus, reducing the stress of hot dry days.
