Grape Vine

I have had great results in propagating new vines directly from the main vines by placing a live vine into a pot of soil and leaving a foot or two of the end grow out of the pot. By lightly cutting the vine that sits in the soil, new roots have grown. I then cut the old away from the pot and plant the newer end elsewhere.

I have just worked with a Concord (2 months in pot) and a Catawba (1 month in pot) and may have a problem. Immediately after cutting away the feeding vine, the newer end wilted. The Catawba had a good root growth while the Concord had one root showing.

My question is...should I wait and see what happens or give up on these two?

I transplanted both into two other containers in order to give them to another gardener to plant.

Any advise will be appreciated.

Thank you, Roy Yerkes Oak Lawn, Ill.

Hopefully you held on to both. By now you should have a clear idea if they took. It sounds like the Concord didn't have much root system. But wait and see what happens. Nothing to lose.
