I have noticed black spots, 5 -6 on each leaf. There are leaves dropping now (in August), I see them on the lawn. Is there a treatment? I could bring a sample to the Master Gardener at our Farmer's Market this weekend.

You are seeing a fungal disease called Tar Spot. Tar Spot is just about everywhere in N. Illinois this summer. Conditions were just right many weeks back for the fungal disease to establish itself. We are now seeing those nearly 1/2 inch across black blotches. Nothing to do now. Sanitation this fall will help reduce potential future source for next year. It is impractical to treat large trees.
