How can a japanese maple be pruned?

Pruning is best done with a pair of hand pruners. You want to enhance the natural growing habit of your maple. Lots of time there is a strong horizontal habit that you can encourage, especially to be seen in the winter. Weepers should be encouraged to maintain the weeping habit to best advantage.
