Holmstrup cedars

My neighbours Holmstrup Cedars are turning brown from the base of the tree moving up. They are blaming ME for my use of "Killex" (selective weed killer). The only problem is that I haven't sprayed anything near those trees!?!? And I haven't even sprayed for weeds ANYWHERE this summer. Is there another reason for this happening because I would hope to defend myself by telling them the REAL reason that they are doing this. I also noticed yesterday that these now 12 foot cedars were planted IN their original pots. Could that be a problem???

Plants should not be planted without removing the container they were grown in. Eventually they can become very root bound and even if a few roots escape, they are not sufficient to support the plant as it grows ever bigger. I would contact your local state extension office and seek more local input as to possible causes of evergreen needle decline.
