Tree worth saving

We have tree that started dying a few years ago and the opinion of a local landscaper was that it started to die because of the driveway we put in. We are unsure as whether to pay the money to cut it down or hold hope because of a section of it is still alive. It also has several ants crawling in and on and around it. I am going to email photos as well, so you can have a visual. Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Thanks for the images sent off line. The images show damage from the canopy down to the sol line. There is a very large area of "included" bark which has likely caused the death of the bark on the trunk and the crotch of the tree. I would not attempt to recover the tree, but have it removed before there is a liability issue as it is near the street and sidewalk.
