is there any herbicide that will rid my lawn of most weeds but not "kill' the clover ?

Clover is a bit harder to control than the common dandelion, so if you can locate a single ingredient product that contains 2,4-D, you should be able to leave the clover and control dandelions and plantains. Avoid treating the clover whenever you can.
