Our arborvitae are 15years old We had a very cold winter and cold and wet summer we seem to have some mold on on branches and trunk and we are loosing more needles on the inside. The outer plant is still green but we are able to see thru the branches because they are getting thin They are around 18 feet high and we hope we can save them. Any suggestions on how and what we can do to save them

This condition has been a common theme all summer. Water well this fall and plan on feeding the evergreens next spring to encourage growth after the droughts and cold weather has set them back. there will always be some needles on the interior that die each year and that is normal. When annual growth is limited, this appears worse.
