It's usually pretty difficult to dig up an established asparagus planting because the roots systems are so deep. Also, if it's been there a long time, chances are it's an older cultivar. Our general recommendation is to establish a new planting with new crowns. There are many new cultivars available - especially those referred to as male cultivars - Jersey Knight, Jersey Prince, Jersey Centennial. While it is possible to dig them up, it isn't usually feasible.
