Hi,

I need to amend the soil in my vegetable garden. My carrots were horrible last year. Should I amend with coarse sand and compost, if so, how much? Thank you!

I think your best approach is to add compost. Adding sand can be tricky. Unless you add the right proportion and get it mixed in thoroughly, you'll wind up with a worse condition than when you started. Add a 2 to 4 inch layer of compost and work it in thoroughly. Be sure to choose a new location so you aren't planting in the same spot.
