can red twig dogwood be rooted by placing in water after pruning?

Red twig dogwoods are often propagated from cuttings. This is usually done in June and July. Commercially the cuttings are placed in a sharp sand or rooting media. they are taken as a softwood or semi soft wood cutting. Your cuttings may root in water, but not a common practice.
