burning bush dead?

Our 15 year old burning bushes that have a southern exposure never lost their leaves in the fall. They just turned brown as always but stayed on the trees all winter and are still on them. One of the bushes has a little bit of green leaves starting but the other one has none. Are they dead or will they come back?

From your description, it sounds like they failed during the summer of 2014. You should expect to see buds expanding by now on the entire plant. Look around at other burning bushes in the neighborhood to be sure. Age, exposure, soil moisture levels, insects and rodents could have all played a part in the demise of your plants
