Red-twig dogwood leaves

My Red-twig dogwood leaves were wonderfully variegated, green with white borders. Suddenly, new growth from pruned branches (pruned in March) have come on as totally green...not very pretty! What's going on?

Either the plant is getting too much shade (the variegation is more prominent in sun), or shoots have reverted. If the latter, they should be pruned out as they grow aggressively and will take over that portion of the shrub.
