Winter burn

We have several well established arborvitae that have done fine since planted 8 years ago. This winter/early spring they developed large areas (mostly on the north side) that have no needles. These areas are in the middle of the trees. Will they regrow new needles? Or should we replace them? Thanks for your input.

If the tree was going to regrow new needles, you would've seen them by now. You can give it a bit more time but it sounds doubtful, so you should consider replacement.
