Every year my honeysuckle bushes are infested with aphids. I now know to cut the witches brooms off in the fall and spray them at first bulb in the spring but what type of insecticide should I use and do I spray inside and out side the bushes? Sincerely, Ellen McElligott

Russian aphids are harder to control than most aphids given the damage to the plant. An appropriate insecticide would be one that has systemic properties. this could be locally systemic, absorbed where treated or products applied to the soil and absorbed by the roots and moved upwards Removing the witches brooms does not guarantee removal of overwintering adults.
