arborvitae bushes

Last year the HWY District came by and I saw them spray on a windy day across the street. The mist was coming towards our arborvitae bushes. We have 93, 10 year old bushes. Some of the bushes started to turn brown on the tips. We hoped they would come out of it. They got worse and this year some are brown and dying. Not all are brown. We caught the HWY District spraying again this year on a windy day and saw them spray in ditch right by the bushes. We have taken samples and going to have them analyzed to see if they can find the spray in the leaves to prove the HWY District did it. My question: is there a way to prevent the other bushes from dying if they got Roundup and 2-4D on them? That was what we were told was sprayed just the other day. We have pictures I could send if that would help you.

I noticed our bushes out front are turning a reddish, brown on some of their tips. Does that sound like spray, fungus or bugs? We don't think they were sprayed from the mist but not sure. Thank you for your help.

This is a difficult situation to address. Tests can be performed if you know the class of the pesticide sprayed, as each test can cost hundreds of dollars. Plants receiving a drift from 2-4D most often survive with current year growth being impacted. 2-4D would not damage the lawn. A Glyphosate product is non selective, systemic and could impact every plant the drift hits. Each state has a regulatory branch through the State Department of Agriculture that can investigate cases such as yours and I would suggest you contact them. Taking and saving pictures and plant analysis can be helpful in defending your claim.
